Highland Games of Loch Norman

This past weekend me and my friend Mai went to the Loch Norman Highland Games. It was so much fun. The day was beautiful Sunday and I got way too much sun for my pale skin, but well worth it. If you haven't ever been to a game you should make time. This was my first, but not for trying. I have tried twice to get to the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games but if you don't get there early don't even bother. The traffic is a major drawback. I'm going to try again this year! Hope to see you there!

Another day

Got to go to my writer's group meeting this past Saturday. Was so happy to see everyone. We had a wonderful agent, Scott Eagan, visiting and speaking to our little group. Check out Carolina Romance Writers to see up-coming events.
So yesterday my family received some exciting and surprising news...my cousin Michael and his girlfriend are expecting a baby in September. This is the first baby in our immediate family in thirty years! So even under the "not-so-ideal" situation we are happy for them.
This weekend a couple of us are going to the Loch Norman Highland Games in Huntersville, NC. If you're in the area you won't want to miss this!

I found an old clipping I cut out of our local paper, Winston Salem Journal in the section, Thought for Today.
"When I was a young man I vowed never to marry until I found the ideal woman. Well, I found her-but, alas, she was waiting for the perfect man." Robert Schuman, French statesman (1886-1963)
Reading this made me think how much this statement is true for me. I'm going to work on it. Promise.

And the painting has begun

OK we've been painting the house and let me say I fully understand why painters make so much money. This is literally hell. Because of all the new drywall we had to prime it with a special paint, then prime with Kilz and last the actual paint color. (Not that we are that far...we've just managed to prime the drywall so far. My sore, achy body is not used to this abuse.)
I've gotten a few picture downloaded before we started the painting. I'll post them today.
On to the next problem...I put Wonderboard on the floor in the bathroom and need to get it put on the walls surrounding the tub to ready the area for tile. OK truthfully I already put it up but it didn't look right so I took it down. Hopefully the second time around I will have better luck. Mind you I have never done this before so I'm going on gut feelings and pure dumb luck. I need to get the studs on the back wall behind the tub redone so that I can anchor the Wonderboard better.
Here's where I think I need to buy a lottery ticket and wish for lucky numbers so that I could just pay someone to do all this work, but really what fun would that be?!

Beautiful to the CORR...

I'm super excited about my favorite group The Corrs. This is an Irish pop/rock/traditional band comprised of three sisters (Sharon, Caroline and Andrea) and a brother (Jim). But now Andrea has a solo album coming out this year and I can barely contain my excitement! Look for the CD in May. Early orders can be placed on Amazon.com or Shop.com. Until then here's a song from their album Borrowed Heaven...

Check out the website for more information, www.thecorrswebsite.com.
Andrea is also on the cover of Sally Beauty magazine Vol 8 No 2 March-April 2007 issue.

I also took a few more pictures of the house today but haven't loaded them yet. There's always tomorrow, in theory.

Secret Shame

OK, so I love America's Next Top Model! I even get caught up in the reruns on VH1 and there goes a whole day.
I am a bit of a TV junkie, as well as a Internet junkie and a book junkie...I guess I'm giving away the fact that I'm obsessive. But it comes and goes!

On the house front:
I checked out some paint colors but I just can't decide if I want to go neutral or to give the house a little kick. My favorite color is Cobalt Blue and that is a definite color and not everyone is going to like it. Most of the "shows" (again with the TV) about flipping a house go with neutrals, not white when repainting. But they sometimes keep the colors in the house. I find it hard to remember I'm not moving into this house so it shouldn't mean anything but it does a bit.

I hope to have some more pictures up in a few days.

Just another day

So I'm posting early today. I just got back from the grocery store, whew! How come when you go to the grocery store you pack your buggy (full in my case), unload it on the conveyor belt, wait for it to be bagged (or bag it yourself as I usually do-I'm impatient) then start to fill your buggy and it doesn't all fit?! What's with that? Is this some law of physics I'm unaware of? Urrrgh! And wouldn't you know it I get home and there's no one there to help unload everything.
Life...a wondrous thing full of adventures around every corner.
Have a great day!

Lazy Days

Do you ever have a day totally devoted to yourself? If you answered no, I'm sorry for you. I love those kinds of days. Today was just one of those days. I read a book, The Warrior by Nicole Jordan and watched a movie, The Band Wagon starring Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse. This movie is thanks to the wonders of Tivo.
I must say Tivo is a wonderful thing. I do sometimes question why it tapes certain shows but when I see that red light go on I get a little excited at what I may find. And I have to say it gets a ton of old movies from the TCM channel and I'm in heaven on my lazy day. I absolutely adore old movies. I get plenty of ideas for stories by watching movies, today was no different.
